Joining the Fight with Truckers Against Trafficking

Financial Carrier Services is proud to announce that we have joined with Truckers Against Trafficking as a sponsor for their organization! We are aware of the harsh realities of human trafficking that is occurring in our country, particularly in the transportation industry, and are excited to partner with TAT to help combat this crime. Check out further below on the history of TAT, the important practices it is doing and how you can help to end human trafficking.

It is estimated that there are over 40 million modern-day slaves around the world, and it is reported that 1 in 4 victims of human trafficking are children. The Truckers Against Trafficking organization was founded to help fight back against these alarming numbers. TAT launched in 2009, and began as it witnessed that human trafficking is often found in locations frequented by truck drivers and other professionals in the transportation industry. Recognizing the potential to recruit thousands of individuals to help report trafficking cases, they began their own training courses targeted towards helping carriers and law enforcement.

The TAT mission is: “To educate, equip, empower and mobilize members of the trucking and travel plaza industry to combat domestic sex trafficking.” They work with those in transportation (trucking companies, bus drivers, travel centers, etc.) and law enforcement officials in spreading awareness as well as reporting cases. A goal of TAT is to make their training resources and informational materials a regular part of training/orientation for members of the trucking industry so that when they suspect human trafficking is taking place, they can call the National Human Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC).

According to the NHTRC, the most common way truckers learned about the hotline and reporting to them on these crimes was through TAT and the training TAT provides. Since its inception, over half a million people have registered as TAT trained and over 2,000 phone calls have been made to the National Hotline by truckers alone. TAT

also reports that 600 likely trafficking cases have been created involving over 1,000 trafficking victims as a result of their trained individuals. They have a variety of programs to facilitate their mission including training programs for drivers and local officials, as well as their mobile-exhibit, “The Freedom Drivers Project” to educate the public on domestic human trafficking.

In addition, TAT believes that social media is a catalyst for change and uses it frequently to spread word on the issues of human trafficking. It utilizes socials to relay the stories of survivors, success stories of truckers who have participated in the program, and continue spreading the overwhelming evidence against these crimes. Here are their social handles to follow to stay up-to-date on their activities and programs:

Human trafficking is a problem that has plagued this country for many years and TAT is working with its partners to help end it. They have been recognized by several organizations for their efforts including the UN (GIFT) and the American Trucking Association.

How can you get involved? Consider completing the TAT training program for you, your drivers and staff, or think about giving your own donation. Likewise, keep in mind January is National Human Trafficking Awareness Month and January 11th is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. The TAT website has a ton of information including events, training courses, educational videos and so much more. We are proud to work with TAT and move these efforts forward.
